Spring Awakening
I went to see Spring Awakening, the Broadway musical, last weekend and I am physically incapable of not listening to the soundtrack at this point.
For those who haven't heard of it, Spring Awakening is based upon on a German play written in 1891 about teenage sexual awakening. It was banned during it's time period. The show deals very bluntly and very truely with growing up .. in a way that even those of us past our teens can appreciate, enjoy and apply to our lives.
The cast is all under the age of 23 (except two adults) and they are all absolutely incredible. The music is by Duncan Sheik, so although the show is set when the play was originally written, the music is very punk/rock/pop and totally addicting. They are also more inner thought songs and so the show isn't really characters singing at each other, more stopping the action to express what's going on in their heads.
sorry I'm rambling now :P But anyway, so I recommend Spring Awakening. And for those of you unable to see the show I recommend listening to the soundtrack cause it's incredible.

august rush
i was a big dork and went with a friend to the 11:45am movie showing of august rush today, opening day. it was great! i highly recommend it, esp. if you are a music lover (duh). it is a modern-day fable--sentimental yes (sappy no), but if you are not a crusty, cynical, hardened soul, that's not a bad thing. bono really should've played robin williams' role, but oh well, bono was too busy on the movie across the universe i guess, hehe.
just saw this article:

too long gone
Hi everyone. I've missed you. I hope you all know about the Jay Clifford/ Slow Runner shows. SR opens with yours truly on electric bass, and then SR becomes the back up band for Jay. We had our first show last night in Birmingham and tonight we're in Atlanta. I expect I'll see some of you folks and I hope you are spreading the good word about the good music.

Across the Universe
Been lurking a lot lately, but I have to post and recommend Across the Universe - Julie Taymor's filmic take on Beatles music. It's really incredible and beautiful and quirky. She really thought about what the songs mean, all their different meanings, and interpreted them visually.
